So Peyton went early and someone reached for a lesser RB in the first round. Very typical. On to round 2.
Round 2
Pick # | Player | Rank | Position | My Thoughts |
11 | Reggie Bush | 17 | RB | Wow reach |
12 | Edgerrin James | 13 | RB | thought he would fall a lot further |
13 | Laurence Maroney | 12 | RB | |
14 | Carson Palmer | 26 | QB | 2nd qb in first 14 picks, yum |
15 | Chad Johnson | 22 | WR | 1st WR gone, got real shot at good back |
16 | Rudi Johnson | 9 | RB | Damn was really hoping for Rudi |
17 | Ronnie Brown | 16 | RB | Didnt want |
18 | Steve Smith | 19 | WR | see below |
19 | Torry Holt | 29 | WR | 3rd WR |
20 | Marvin Harrison | 20 | WR | 4th WR |
At pick 18, the odds of getting an elite fantasy running back are slim to none. I really had my eye on Rudi, and if he did not get to me, I was going to go best WR on the board and then snake around and either take another stud WR or my 2nd running back. I honestly felt that if I would have drafted Jones-Drew here, the elite fantasy receivers would all be taken. If Jones-Drew did get drafted, there was a ton of value with other Running back picks later.
At this point, to me the value of getting an elite WR of my choice far outweighs getting the next best RB. There is no one that is head and shoulders above the rest. And since I can only start 2 running backs and 3 wide receivers, the WR's are going to be a premium in this draft. In almost every other league that I have ever done, we play 2 running backs, 2 wide receivers, a flex RB/WR (either start a running back or a wide receiver) and a Flex WR/TE (either start a WR or a TE). In almost every one of those types of drafts, I go RB, RB, RB in the first 3 rounds and WR, WR, WR the next 3 rounds. This was going to be a much different draft.
